Suspension Overhaul

Post by Danfzzl »

Well Winter is practically here and I can no longer ride my motorcycle, this means I'll be spending a lot more time in the Baja. Unfortunately my suspension is absolutely shot. This is all 100% my fault because I didn't address the problem(s) when it first started, and now I'm paying the price. My ball Joints, wheel bearings, and front right control arm bushing are toast. There is a horrible knocking from the front right when I get up to highway speeds, this also creates terrible steering wheel shake. My front right tire is badly scalloped (uneven tire ware from the tire almost literally bouncing) This makes me believe that my struts need to be replaced as well. I will be replacing my wheel bearings, ball joints, control arms, and eventually the struts. So my question is has anyone changed any of these parts? Any tips or tricks you'd suggest? Also any particular brand of parts you'd recommend?

Penetrating oil. If you have can, spray everything down ahead of time.

The pinch bolt for the ball Joint is a complete pita if it breaks, and so take your time.

The ~$15 harbor freight ball Joint tool is worth more than that when it Somes time to remove a rusty bj.
