Hey bajamudd, how do you like the NA engine? I'm torn between the Turbo and the NA versions. I know there are advantages and dis-advantges of both.

Yours is setup exactly how I wanted to do mine when I get one. maybe a little bit more aggressive tire would be about it.
thanks

I looked into buying a turbo as well but after weighing everything out the n/a was better. Honestly my new n/a has a ton more power than my old one that I totalled. It isnt super fast but it goes enough for me. And its good on gas for a Baja.
I just replaced my tires anyways, the other ones were crap haha. I just bought it so I was trying to make them last.

Bajamudd, thanks for the reply. Yeah I swear I go back and forth on my decision on a daily basis. :?

I swear one day I want a Turbo with a 5 speed, the next day I want an NA with an Automatic. haha, two extremes. I'm looking at a few of them right now that run the gammet of both extremes. I found a 2006 black NA with only 59K miles on it that is driven by an older woman. I've yet to look at it but from the conversations I've had with the owner it's seems like a nice ride. I'm still trying to coordinate a test drive with them because they're not too close to me.

In any rate, I'll keep looking and reading. One day I'll make a decision.

I was back and forth too, but being a freshman in college, working a part-time job and already hurting after buying a my second baja. A turbo was not a good idea for me. I still want 5 speed a turbo for the speed and performance, but my n/a auto is more than enough for me to have fun in. It is powerful offroad, and thats my main focus. It sounds like you found a hell of a ride though, as long as the price is right.

Well, I did take a look at that auto NA and test drove it. Felt kinda sluggish but overall wasn't too bad. It did have a rebuilt title and the front bumper was replaced and he couldn't tell me what had happened that made it a rebuilt title. You can tell it was re-painted from up close (horribly done). What got me was the guy didn't know much about the car at all. He couldn't tell me service maintenance and things like that. Aside from all those things I mentioned above I guess what made me walk away from it in the end was when I wanted to look under the hood he didn't know how to open it. [smilie=boggl3y3dummy-ani.gif] Seriously, he was looking in the owners manual while I fiddled with it for a few minutes and finally figured it out. So basically this guy never even popped the hood!! The engine compartment was filthy too.

I did test drive a 5 speed Turbo yesterday locally. It wasn't too bad either but it had quite a few cosmetic issues with it (rust, dings, dents overall dirty too). For me I'm not too concerned about performance as much as I am with convenience. I have an Auto on my truck right now and a lot of people I know hate auto's in that engine but I don't mind it at all. Yeah I would love a bit more power for off road but it's not too big a deal for me.

I've found quite a few of them in Ohio and I'm planning on driving down to check some out.

Thanks for your insight.

WOW! Just wow, that blows my mind. People shouldn't be allowed to drive if they don't even know how to open a hood! That blows my mind. The na Baja's are going to feel a little sluggish anyways, simply because they are under powered. But, seeing that its a rebuilt title, it could have been in a head on collision of some kind, which in result caused the engine to not operate properly. I don't know. What year was it? I know my 03' baja was A LOT more sluggish than my 05', I had it at 3 Subaru shops and other places and they all said there was an unexplainable lack of engine power.
I guess my next question is, what is you price range?

The one I looked at was an 06 NA.

I really didn't want to go over 12-12.5K range. That seems to be the going rate for a decent 05-06 with a little over 100K miles on it.
I love the color combo on yours. Is yours a 5 speed or Auto? How do you like that Gorilla bar? Have you used the winch in the field under real conditions? Does it fel sturdy when the winch is pulling?

Oh ok, its a shame it was a bust.

That's a pretty good range, for me it was almost impossible to find one in my color combo, with under 100k on for 12. I have to break down and pay a little over 14 :/. Mine is auto. The bar is AMAZING it was on my last baja too, and amazingly the bar is what took the blow in my crash and it held up great! I took out a rock wall with it. It is super strong and lightweight. Th winch i have used 4 times now, 2 times it was completely submerged in mud/water and pulled me right out, the other 2 times i used to get up a really stepp hill climb. It pulled me up like it was nothing. Its a great little winch.

Care to share the location with a fellow Baja'er?

Any plans as to your next outing?
