Just picked it up today, mods in the works

Post by Acro2pilot »

My new to me 06' Baja sport with 84k miles. I FINALLY have one. I was interested since they announced the STX back in 2000 or so but I never got around to owning one. After replacing my STi with a different car 2 years ago, for the first time in my life since highschool I didn't own a Subaru. So I finally got off my butt and picked up a BAJA. It is remarkable how much it feels like a BRAT, the subtle sound and feel of it is more like an old school BRAT than an STi or WRX or other modern Subaru. I felt like I was driving my 86 BRAT for the first time again back in the day.

So tomorrow it goes up on the jackstands and the wheels come off for a bunch of measuring and figuring. I am on the fence between 4 and 6 inches of lift. There is that magic line with Subarus where things go from simple to real hard. While I would be up for a science project at 12 inches or so this I just don't have time for a multi month custom fab so I want to keep it simple and short. Moderate lift, good tires. Next summer I plan on dropping in an STi powerplant when I get some free time. I pulled some of my BRAT trim items out of the boxes to add to the Baja, badges, rear logo etc. and am going to look into getting a graphic made for the rear pillar that says Baja like the BRAT had on its rear pillar.

My axillary lights should be getting here Monday, and SJR said a week on the lift a few days ago so I am totally ready to get moving on this. I don't want to order tires until I get the lift on and get some more accurate measurements for what trimming of the wheel well will be possible and how much tire I can clear.

@Lotus1, I have a BOE Revo 400 supercharger system in the Lotus, it has the new TVS blower with a huge air to water intercooler, and pulled allot of weight out of the already light car, it is totally belligerent to drive!

Lights are here. This week's science project will be to excavate my Brat bed seats from the basement and see if they will fit in the back of the Baja. If they do I will have to fab up a mounting system that makes them totally removable as I need the bed to be available without obstructions to carry pinball and arcade games.

The light kit went pretty good but the wiring harness had a problem. It had 12v but would not trigger the relay and measured as a ground fault so rather than fight it I just made my own harness for the relay/switch and had it up and running.

And while waiting for my lift kit, initial tests indicate yes;
