Has anyone done a supension lift?
So getting a body lift kit is easy, but when it comes to a suspension lift....I can't find anything solid. Has anyone successfully done one on their Baja?
Re: Has anyone done a supension lift?
I have ! I had it done by John Bloom. He customizes the strut where it is raised up higher. My Lift is only 2 and a half incehs but it makes a difference.

- The space between the bottle and diff were snug before the lift... The difference is clear

Wow! no joke, that's WICKED!!!
Actually i was looking at a lift of about 2.5 inches!
Did you bring your Baja to him? Buy a kit or sent him a component to be modified?
Thanks!!!!!

Hey Snorkeled - how have your drive axles held up - have you had to replace any (are they OEM)? On my OBS I've gone through two passenger drive axles (both after market which I believe to be the issue) with my Forester struts and 1" strut top spacers - maybe a total of 1.5" - my grabbers add another inch.Snorkeled wrote:I have ! and did Bloom extend from the bottom of the strut?
Re: Has anyone done a supension lift?
Hello. John Bloom cut the part where the coil meets with the Strut and moved it up further and then re welded it. It compresses the coil more. The ride is a little bit stiffer but feels great through corners and still feels good on trails. The drive axles have held up good... Atleast no problems yet lol.
Re: Has anyone done a supension lift?
I bought and installed a 1" Subtle solutions lift kit. Which was just a set of 4 1 inch spacers that were placed on top of the struts. It is only an inch, but it has made a difference!

Interesting - I would have thought it would have been easier to extend it at the base - avoiding the need to rebuild the strut - unless I'm missing something. If I am understanding the description correction - doesn't that result in a decrease in travel? The net result maybe more clearance/height, but the location of the extension seems to affect travel - as opposed to doing the extension at the base of the strut where you would not be affecting the strut/spring relationship. Not sure if I'm making sense or if I'm not understanding the approach taken - but definitely has given me something to think about.Snorkeled wrote:Hello. Given my understanding of the the Bloom approach, the strut tower spacer isn't much different. I run similar spacers on my car. But these are not suspension lifts - these would be considered body lifts as they change the height of the vehicle by moving the body of the vehicle relative where the suspension is mounted. A suspension lift would entail installing taller springs and/or struts - just to clarify the difference for those (reading) who might need to know.bajamudd wrote:I bought and installed a 1" Subtle solutions lift kit. Right, I know they aren't suspension lifts, I should have mentioned that, But thank you. I want to gain another 2-3 inches, that would be really nice, but I don't know how else to raise it up more that won't cost me an arm and a leg to have done haha.
And, do your grabbers rub at all in the wheel wells? My bf goodrich touring t/a's rubbed a bit when I first got them.

In the first pic where you see the strut, above my tire you can see where he re-welded the coil holder up a few more inches. The strut coil holder was below the tire wall.. If that makes any since.

To get two or three more inches, you'll have to do lift that extends everything - the body, the suspension, and the transmission. This will get costly. Here is somethign you might find helpful:bajamudd wrote:Right, I know they aren't suspension lifts, I should have mentioned that, But thank you. Re: Has anyone done a supension lift?
moving up the bottom spring perch allows for larger tires to fit, which is usually the downfall of the newer Soobs when lifted...Snorkeled wrote:In the first pic where you see the strut, above my tire you can see where he re-welded the coil holder up a few more inches. For traditional 4x4s with body on frame construction, the body lift just raises the body alone without any suspension changes.
the Soob lifts fall into 2 categories. Suspension lift, or Combination lift. Suspension lift being either going to taller springs/struts from a different model, or adding spacers to the top or bottom of the struts.
The combination lifts include the suspension adjustments, along with a corresponding lift block everywhere that the subframe assemblies touch the body, which will net you the same as a traditional body lift, and this will keep the stock axle geometry.
Yes, the combination lifts are more costly as there are lots of blocks included to hit all the points...
http://www.sjrlift.com makes strut spacers and the full combination lifts. I have his 2" strut blocks waiting to be installed when I get new struts...
The strut blocks are angled to try and keep geometry of axles less impacted.
Strut bottom extensions would be better if trying to run some much larger tires... but they would be more costly to make...
