New auto. Transmission For 2003 Baja

Post by bajamudd »

I am looking for a new automatic transmission for my 2003 Baja, its been giving me fits lately. Such as downshifting, then immidiately shifting back into the previous gear, shifting into overdrive at bad times causing the engine to bog down almost to the point where it will stall out, and rough shifting inbetween 1st and 2nd gear.

Does anybody have an idea as to whether I will need a new transmission?
or
Is there some sensor that has gone bad that tells the computer when to shift?

Doesn't sound like a typical Subaru 4eat failure (and I've had multi SVX's for 9 + years)

I would check your ATF level. Is it full? How does it smell? Burnt?
I would check your TPS voltage. On older Soobs, you want 0.5+vdc at idle, not sure about these??

My ATF level should be fine, I had my tranny cleaned and flushed out about 3 months ago because it was doing the same thing, nothing changed. And how do I check my TPS voltage?

Checked my ATF, it said low. But my car had been siting for about 5 minutes before i checked it....so i don't know if it was giving me the hot or cold levels and even then i haven't a clue because the manual does a terrible job of telling you abou the levels.

ATF should be checked with the engine running in P or N.

I had a brain fart when I checked it, I checked again when it was running and it was still low so I took it to the Shop that I always use and they topped it off (since they were the last ones to touch the transmission) for free.
It shifts better but it still isn't great. Then again it does have 140500 miles on it and I don't know what the previous owner did with it. I replace almost all fluids annually and keep up with any and all required maintenance.
