misfiring

Need help! New owner of 2006 turbo. Having problems with misfiring at idle but not at high speeds. Check engine light is on. Just replaced plugs and put injector cleaning in fuel. Is there a problem with using mid grade gas (89) instead of high (93). Swithed to high grade but probably still have little of mid in tank. Any suggestions. THANKS blkbeauty.

You should run 91-93 octane but you can get away with 89 every once in a while when no high test is available. But that’s a topic all in its own. The 89 should not cause the issue you describe. My recommendation would be to check for any vacuum leaks. You may have knocked something loose when you put the plugs in. Also, because the light is on you could get the car scanned. Some parts stores do this as a free service.

There can be numerous issues that can lead to misfires. I would suggest sticking with 91-93 fuel all the time because turbos require premium fuel. Since you replaced plugs, check your air filter but I think one of your injectors is going bad. I had a similiar problem a while back it turned to be cylinder 4 injector. It started off and on until it got real bad at idle and high speeds. It's hard to tell without looking or hearing the engine.

Just fixed a similar problem, was popping a misfire in cyl 1 (P0301 error) swapped the spark plug with cyl 3 to see if it would follow the plug, it did not. Swapped the fuel injector with injector 3 and what do you know I started getting cyl 3 misfire (P0303 error) Replaced the bad fuel injector, now it's running smoothly, no more rough idle, no more stuttering/weak acceleration, no more misfires.

So I realise this is somewhat of a dead thread, but I'm having a similar issue.

My '04 Baja Turbo runs fine at idle, but the check engine light seems to light up when I hard accelerate. It will stay on for a few days, then turn itself off. Then come back on a few later. The CEL code that keeps popping up is P0302 (Cyl 2 Misfire detected).

The spark plugs were replaced not more than 5k miles ago (along with a full 120k maintenance), and the timing belt was replaced about 25k miles back. Any thoughts?

Did you replace the plug wires, too? If you haven't, I highly recommend going OEM for them. I've gone with the cheapest from Advance Auto (short on cash at the time), and the wires only lasted a year or so before I got the same misfire.

I thought there were no plug wires on subarus? Do you mean replacing the coil pack themselves?

My 2006 NA Baja definitely has plug wires. Did a little research, found this post over on NASIOC: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showpos ... stcount=17

And you're right, the turbo doesn't have plug wires. Each plug has a pack, directly bolted to the valve cover supposedly.
