lift kit or at least new coils

Post by weiss »

I was tihnking replacing springs since my Baja sits kinda lower than I used to a few years back. I guess all those piles of bricks and lumber finally did it. I also always wanted a bit more clearance for all those logging roads on my hunting trips. Basically as is, wasn't bad at all, but I figure one or two inches would be better. Is there some kind of aftermarket lift kit or what would be better options? So far I discussed this matter at tire shop, but sales person figured I can't simply put bigger tires, there isn't anough clearance, he figures tires are already maxed out. Can you guys recommend any lifting options?

What year is your Baja? By design the 03 is an inch lower than the 04-06. Subaru raised the stock ride height 1" for 04-06. If you have an 03, you can simply swap out the springs at all 4 corners with a later year Baja to gain an inch. I have done this on my own 03 and measured before/after. I definitely gained the inch I was looking for.

Technically the shocks/struts should be swapped too to account for the different height. I changed my rear shocks at the same time I did the springs (my original problem which started my whole project was a broken spring mount), but did not change the front struts. I have never had an issue with anything with the front struts...

I have an 03 baja myself and lifted it 1" this december. I have a 1' spacer placed ontop of all four struts. It is made by Subtle Solutions and costed me $215. I will be buying the 05 springs shortly for another inch of clearance.

to BajaMudd and Feather11,
this is what I am looking to do to mine. The question is, should I buy new shocks and struts and springs, or try to find them from a Baja parts car? Mine is an 03 too.

IMO - New springs aren't that expensive, plus finding an 04-06 Baja parts car may be a rather long wait and large PITA (pain in the a--)... I replaced the rear struts/shocks with 05 model year, but this was only because the spring perch weld broke on my original. The fronts have not been upgraded yet, but I still got the extra 1" with just the springs. Will also be adding a 1" strut spacer lift here soon like the Subtle kit bajamudd has, but mine is a home engineered kit I fabbed up out of HDPE for about $30/$40 total to save a little cash...

Peace!

You wouldn't happen to be mass producing those pieces for an extra $30/$40 for others would you?

All seriousness, though. I heard King Springs would add about 1" of lift, but I don't know if they were talking about the '03s or later models. I have an '04 Turbo and have been looking around as well.

Cane anyone clarify if these would work for '04s and later?

you would need king springs for an outback, but yes it would raise the car about 1" after it settles. add strut top spacers and tires for about 4" of total lift
