Hey all i'm not presently a Baja owner, (got a 99 legacy 2.5gt pushing just under 204k miles atm) but i'm looking and researching into getting a 06 turbo more then likely so i'm tossing around the forum scenes

i'm 27 (going on 28) and after securing a good paying job at a local Lowe's distrobution center in central PA i'm looking to buy a baja to fill that back seat love affair i got back in 05 when i test drove one but sadly couldnt afford it but still fell in love with'em :)

Any present owners got any pointers to look at when looking at baja's things to consider areas to inspect that could be trouble and what not? especially since i'm looking at a probable turbo model?

Welcome.

I'm not very familiar with the turbo's, but I know there is some issue with the oil screen filter. I'm sure a search will bring up more info.

Where in CenPa? I used to live near Pottsville, now I'm up in Wilkes-Barre.

I still have the house in Cressona, so if you see a white SVX or a dark blue Baja with a Black Mudrat bumper honk and wave.

why do you suggest the 04 over the 06? the 06 tops with a higher hp but with same mpg from all i've seen plus i've found a few more open for sale

Yes ! If it was me getting another Baja. I would buy a 2004 Turbo Baja. I have heard little problems with the 2004 Baja's. :)

Ok again question i'm curious is what problems have been noted on the 05/06 ones vs the 04 ones? nothing i've come across points to anything major yet

I have a 2003 n/a so I can't speak to the fact of how the turbos are. But welcome to the community.

I have an 03 non-turbo. The '03 models have a history of problems, especially the head gasket and fuel pumps. I had both replaced and neither was covered by warranty. I did get a $2,000 rebate when I bought it though, so I guess we're even.

Not that you should avoid the 03, just be sure those repairs were done. Also, I think as stated before, the '03 does not come with a turbo, and the suspension is lower.

Good luck!

Kingston here! Just got the '03 Baja out here from Pittsburgh (long story.) I'm pretty sure I'm one of only 2 Bajas with ARE caps running around NEPA...

Haven't had any fuel pump issues here (knock on wood), but HGs were done in February 2011. Also, this engine has ridiculous piston slap.
