Bumper re-installed and lights added.

Post by hocrest »

When we got the Baja a few months ago, it came with a MudRat front bumper. It was somewhat pitted and had some surface rust so I took it off and put the stock bumper (also included in the sale) on for the mean time.

Today I picked up the bumper from powder coating. I went with a gloss black instead of the silver it was. I also added some Hella Driving and Fog lights. The driving on in the original tabs up top. Before getting it coated, I added some new tabs on the bottom to hang the fogs.

This is one of the tabs that I added to the bottom rail to be able to hang some fog lights.

First off Beautiful Baja, its always nice to see another Baja with the Mudrat Bumper. I would only change one thing .. The 2 lower Fog lights hang pretty low.. I dont know if you plan to take your baja off road at all. I have ran over a few animals at night that would do a good ammount of damage to anything that low. I am not bashing on it by any means, I love to see all the ideas out there. Thats just my 2 bits. Have a good day. [smilie=666.gif]

Funny you should say that... I just came in from taking them off in the middle of the hotel parking lot (we're participating in the 48hrs of Tri-State). I busted one up yesterday negotiating a entrance of Target

So I pulled the fogs off for now, I have a couple of ideas for version 2...

When I mounted them, even when I was welding the tabs on. I had a feeling they were gonna hang low. So my one thought is to use the new tabs I mad and an extra bracket to poke a smaller fog light out between the bars, just inboard of the perforated metal panels. Another thought is to abandon the tabs I added and hang these under the driving lights on the big tabs.

I'll figure it out next week when we get home.
