Seems my little scooby is revolting from all the Christmas cheer. Last night driving home i popped out a CD, and all the controls on my radio froze... I can't change the volume, the station, or anything. it's stuck. and i mean stuck...none of the buttons work. I cant even insert a CD.
Im glad it's a fairly decent station, and i did not have the volume loud. When i turn the key off, the music stops, but the back light remains on. Turning the ignition back on has no effect... the music plays but still no button response.
Is this natures way of telling me time to upgrade my tunage box? It's a stock 2006 Baja, aside from some seat stripes i had done a few years ago. Music is important to me, but unlike the first check i ever wrote in my life... ($1000 bucks for a stereo for a 1973 Plymouth Duster... why yes thank you.... it rocked out quite nicely...) Im not willing to break the bank.
Im going to pop the fuse to the radio to see if that reboots the darn thing... otherwise perhaps it's time i upgrade.
**edit... Tried the fuse and boy it just made the radio not work. back light still on.. tried the battery disconnect. ugh...Got a new head unit... which is good, blue tooth hands free, iPod, HD, and even a remote control for those squirts in the back seat. Just doing my part to help the economy along... This is the car I hope to keep forever. Said that about my jeep... but I love my Baja MORE!!!!**

Re: Radio issue, wont turn 'off'
never heard of this happening. for me my volume control knob doesn't work well when its really cold inside the car. If I turn the volume up sometimes the volume actually ends up going down, but only when its really cold in the car.
if the fuse trick doesn't work, you may need to pull the radio out and check the back for any loose or shorted connections. also check your battery connections, loose terminals in the past for me have caused issues with my radios, still not sure why.
decent aftermarket radios are usually as low as $60 and depending on where you get it, they usually can install for a minimal charge. otherwise a dealer could sell you a factory radio

That's a bit of a common head unit failure, when I was with VW that was how 90% of the factory units failed.
