I am coming up on the need to change the antifreeze in my 2003 Baja. I have heard that if you use anything but Subaru antifreeze, corrosion will cause a head gasket failure. I know if I ask the Subaru dealer about it, they will say yes, and here it is for, oh, 20 bucks a gallon. What is the real story? I would like to use Sierra antifreeze, (propylene glycol based) but hesitate to do so if it will cause problems. I have never had a problem using Sierra antifreeze in any of my other vehicles. What have others experienced?

Re: antifreeze
I just did this in mine yesterday. I got the subaru coolant and conditioner from the dealership and let the local guys that I trust do the actual flush. The coolant was about $21 and the conditioner was about $2-3. The dealership told me that subarus are picky about the coolant they use and the transmission fluid. They told me the head gasket thing ( which I had already heard about on the Internet). I went ahead and used the subaru stuff simply for piece of mind. An extra $10-20 is a pretty cheap price for some piece of mind in my book.
