normal rpms for 2005 baja at 70 miles per hour

Post by flemingd »

Hi
Asking a question I cant find elsewhere on the forum. I have a 2005 baja sport and I have noticed the rpm's at 70 miles per hour are 2800 in drive. I seem to have convinced myself that the rpm's were usually around 2400 at the same speed. But I am old and grey and may now doubt myself if the rpms were always around 2800. What does yours run at 70mph?
I had it to a credible nonsubaru transmission shop and they say everything is fine with tranny, converter, and say it is locking up as it supposed. I am looking for some reassurance from you baja guys that the rpms are fine at 70mph.

Hey there,
2800rpm/70mph definitely sounds right. I have an 03 with auto trans, and I've been watching my rpms & speed lately (been tracking fuel mileage vs driving habits). At 2500 rpms, I'm cruising right around 60mph. I'll try it at 70mph on the way home and will let you know the exact reading on the tach...

Yep, verified this morning. Pegged it right at 70mph and was turning 2800rpm exactly...

Cruising at 2400 rpm yielded 62mph...

Hope this helps!

Have a 2006, 5 speed, non-turbo, never noticed at 70 mph but at 75, 5th gear, rpm is a tick over 3500

here's a shameless plug of my scooby hittin' 50K miles, showing the rpm and speed so it -is- on topic. =)
