Turbo swap information

Post by Parja »

The turbo in my wife's '05 Baja blew over the weekend, so I'm frantically searching for a replacement.

Does anyone have any information on what other Subarus use the identical TD04L that would be a direct drop-in replacement (no tuning or other tweaking necessary)?

The 04-07 Foresters I'm sure use the same turbo. The 02-07 Impreza WRX's also used this turbo. I don't know beyond these years if the TD04 was still being used.

If you get a turbo out of a Forester or another Subaru. Besure to change the "pill" that is in the vacuum line near the Waste Gate Control. If you don't you will have spike problems much like I did.

Make sure you check and clean or remove the screen in the banjo bolt. This screen has been the cause of many turbo failures. Here's a link that will help you out with this issue.
