bikes-To the BACK!

Post by corgimas »

just tossed together our bike carrier for the Sheepish....
as you can see the roof real estate is alreayd taken over by the passion-kayaks....so...where to put the bikes....no hitch yet (plans though)....
a couple of fork blocks (a Delta and a Saris-30$ total) and a 1x4x46" fir flooring (6.5$)...and all ready to go...
the cam strap is not needed but highly recommended....any bump would get this bike a bumping around back there...also the strap runs through the front wheel so it does not disappear...

not bad i dare say.....

I went altogether without a bike rack for some time -- I would
just stand the bikes in the back and strap'em up.

After struggling with more straps than Dolly Parton's bustier, and then
watching the bikes worm their way around the bed -- I graduated to
the 1x4 home built rack. I'm now on Bike Rack 2.0.

By using a 1x8 notched to fit in the Baja's recesses and
mounting the bike fork mounts as far forward as possible, I can get the
bikes into the bed and use the bed extender... which just adds
a level of security to carrying the bikes.

Following up on some ideas from others here and at NASIOC, I now have
a storage box (that can be locked in place) to carry bike gear. You can
read more about the rack here, see construction details,
and see links to other home-built bike solutions. Enjoy!

Hi Snorkeled, you do realize that URL has been down for quite some time? Not sure if they're still around or in business.
