Low gas light - how many gallons left

Post by NCbaja »

Those of you that have run it dry do you have an idea of how many gallons remain in the tank when the low gas light comes on?

Thanks

Got me on that one, it may vary a bit from one vehicle to another. I do remember once runnin on empty for 30 miles, and when I filled up, there was only about 1 gallon in the tank. Not a good idea to do this, as the gas keeps the pump cool, so I was burning up my pump coolant when the tank was that low.

According to the 2006 manual:

The low fuel warning light comes on when the tank is
nearly empty [approximately 2.6 US gal (10.0 liters,
2.2 Imp gal)]. It only operates when the ignition switch
is in the “ONâ€

That being said, I've run my tank down to about 16 gallons, but it started to stall at speed past this point. So there was about .9 gal left in the tank assuming you stop at the fill point of the 16.9gal capacity. Generally I like to have it filled up within 40 miles of the light coming on.
