Mine's an '06, Phloid. Bought it two months ago, but it apparently sat on a lot for a while (mfg'd 03/06).
I will be taking it in the next couple of weeks or so for the first oil change. I'll ask the dlr then & see if they have anything to say. If not, I suppose I'll just chop off the excess & hope I don't leave the cap anywhere. Previous cars I've had have had a way to attach the cap to the car - a slot or something like that - rather than the tether. I liked that.
Anyway...
As far as pursuing it much past asking the dealer, I'm not too worried about it. I've had some pretty lemony cars in the past, so if this is the worst thing that happens to my car (and so far it is), I will be pretty darn happy.

It's not easy to leave it somewhere because the Check Engine light will come on, if not right away, probably within a minute or so.

Good point! Hopefully sooner than later, so I'm not looking for it on the side of the road a mile back.
Anyway, took it to Mastro Wednesday for the 3750 service, and the service rep mentioned that they have had a number of these broken lately on newer models. He thinks maybe thay had a bad batch, and ordered me a new one under warranty. Yay!
As gas climbed to nearly $4 per gallon, I opted for an aftermarket locking gas cap. (I also added Gorilla locks to the wheels). My tether is still going strong because it is attached to the original cap and sitting on a shelf. I do wish the gas door was lockable or at least latchable with a handle on the inside like many cars from the 1980's onward have.
I don't think it broke b/c it is cheaply made, I think it got caught on the hinge on the gas door, and it got cut. I just had to pull it out from the hinge.
06 turbo, auto.. turbo gauge,sub woofer under seat, view mirror w/ dimmer, 110v outlet mounted in dashboard, really nice remote starter,bed ex, back cab light go on by remote, moved tubro gauge 1" to the right(couldn't see the clock or temp gauges)
