Replace rear axles

Post by Bobsagator »

Replacing rear wheel bearing and discovered the axle shaft split in the splines. No biggie, just get a new axle. Thought I'd replace both bearings at the same time and ripped the boot on the other axle. Was a great idea to just replace both axles at the same time until I saw how crazy expensive they are. How are Subaru rear axles $300-$400 each? And most Subaru parts sites do not carry the rear right axle for the 04 Baja Turbo MT.

I got my front axles a while ago from 1A Auto, but it appears they only sell fronts. Is there an option for reliable yet more economical rear axles anywhere?

The Baja and Outback share a lot of body parts and almost all of the drive train. Have you check your local "salvage" yards?

Found a salvage yard that is en route to a site visit i have to make next week. Says they have a Baja axle and a bunch of Outback 3.0 axles. Hopefully one of them matches.

Still just can't believe there are no replacement options.
