2006 Baja low beam headlights are always on is this correct?

Post by SCOOTER »

Hi first my low beam headlights are always on when I'm driving but if I pull up the emergency brake it goes off. Is this correct is this normal for the Baja 2006 sport. I did put in LED bulbs that do flicker a little bit but they were doing the same thing before with the original bulbs always low beams are on pull up the emergency brake it goes off. A second question is the engine only has 75,000 Mi and it does have a bad piston slap a person told me that it's okay I'll run another 50,000 MI but with Subaru ever help me with this? Thank you a newbie Mr scooter.

Hello Mr Scooter

I have a 2006 Sport too and it behaves the same
way, so I would say your lights are working as
they should.

As for piston slap . . . one of my annoyances.

My wife bought an extended warranty when she
purchased the car. In 2012, I took it to the dealer
to ask about the piston slap. They said you need
two new pistons (covered by warranty, after
deductible). That fixed it for a while, but the
noise came back. Took it back to dealer, they said
there was metal in the oil and we needed a new block
(again covered by warranty, but withing a month
of it expiring). Put a new block in, no piston slap.
Until . . . . after 6 months, it started. Took it back to
the dealer and they said it was a normal noise
that all Subaru's of this era make (mostly true).

Took it to another dealer, and they listened and
confirmed the same thing. About 60,000 miles now
on the new block and it makes the same noise,
no better or worse. Seems to me if there is metal
hitting metal and making a noise it can't be good.
But . . . . it doesn't seem to matter.

Piston slap is just something we have to live
with, as annoying as it is.

Not sure any of this helps you.

As far as I know they only fixed it with the new FB engines on Outbacks and SJ Foresters
