Hello all. This will be my first inquiry. I have a cracked thermostat housing problem.
I'm planning to replace it so there will be no problem when my son use it. Can someone here tell me how much would it cost for a professional replacement?
Also, can I DIY this? I prospected this https://parts.subaruonlineparts.com/oem ... BSZXN1bHRz online and I was wondering if I can replace it on my own.
Do I need a specific tools to replace it?
Thank you.

Re: Thermostat replacement cost
It would probably be one hour of shop labor, plus materials (coolant). That price would fluctuate between shops.
You can also do this yourself, you need a 10mm deep socket, a ratchet, and a screwdriver.
Here's an example of what's involved. The example car and your car have the same parts when it comes to the thermostat.

Lastly, bleeding all the air out of the cooling system on a Subaru is more finnicky than it really should be. It is critical you bleed it properly, or you (or your son) could easily blow the head gaskets while driving in the middle of nowhere.
Here's an example of bleeding a subaru's cooling system. again, the procedure will be the same as your vehicle. I bought this style of funnel system from a local auto parts stores, and it had adaptors to not only work on my subaru, but also my toyotas and my roomate's ford.

And don't forget to use SUBARU coolant. The regular green stuff isn't good for Subarus. Dennis
