2003 NA Baja PCV valve confusion....part numbers inside!!!

Post by RedStage »

Ok, decided I wanted to change the PCV out. So I ordered the part...was expecting the one that is on the intake manifold...(was told there is only one valve)...

I received the one that is on the crankcase...

Ok...

No big deal, turns out I needed that one anyways.

Car is a 2003 NA.

Intake side part number is: 11810AA000 - Turns out that this part is just a nipple and is not actually a valve

Crankcase side part number is 11810AA040

Apparently this is a common issue where the PCV in the parts catalog at subaru only comes up with one part number. The
base with the threads on the intake side is different (smaller) than the PCV valve on the crankcase (thicker).

I called my local dealer and they took the effort to dig up schematics to find the correct part numbers for the 2 valves.

Recommend changing both as they are easy as hell and also get the "L" shaped hose that connects the two valves. (Part number 99071AB73B)

In the picture the part labelled T7 and circled in red is part No. 11810AA040
The hose just above it labelled (25) is part number 99071AB73B
and the other valve labelled (8) is part number 11810AA000

Hope this can be of use to someone.

Thanks for the info! How did you know the PVC valve needed to be changed? Anything obvious with the engine performance, or more of a maintenance thing? I also have a 2003 NA and no idea if mine has been replaced...

I was experiencing a bit of a stumble at idle while stopped. This was one of the suspected culprits. If you remove the PCV valve and shake it, you should hear the valve open and close (sounds a lot like a can of spray paint). If you hear nothing that means the PCV valve is gummed up and should be replaced.

Highly recommend that you get
No. 11810AA040 (PCV Valve) and 99071AB73B (hose that attaches to PCV Valve)
My hose was dry and cracked
