06 baja turbo mis-fire on clynder 4

Post by sorfjord »

I have an 06 baja turbo. I have been getting cel 0304. I have changed the plugs with no change. I then replaced all 4 coil packs, no change. I believe the next step is to swap the fuel injectors. Can someone tell me placement of the cylinders. i.e. cylinders 2 and 4 are on the drivers side, 4 is closest to the firewall. I am having a difficult time getting these specs.

Thanks,
Scott

#1 front passenger side
#3 rear passenger side
#2 front driver side
#4 rear driver side

(front = front of the car, rear = close to firewall)

Does this help?

Hi Scott,

Did you ever fnd the cause to your 06 misfire code???? The reason I ask is I have a cylinder misfire code on my 03 as well. To date, this is what the dealership has done

1. Replace spark plugs & wires and coil
2. Clean the carbon out from behind plugs/injectors
3. Move injectors 3 and 4...code still follows cylinder 4
4. Replace timing belt at 83K miles
5. Reflash the computer with upgrade
6. Flushed the injectors with cleaner solvent.

$2000+ later the code/light remains on [smilie=hate.gif] I am at the point where I am stabbing in the dark. I am thinking of replacing the EGR and PCV hoping that it may be just a vacuum issue. I (as well as the dealer) am stumped BIGTIME.

This is a common problem with the Baja. I am experiencing it now as well. It always seems to be a cel for cylinder 4 that starts the process. My issues started with a cel for the AVCS system. AVCS system failed hard with an oil control solenoid dropping completely off the map. Turbo dropped off and timing adjusted so fast I thought the engine was gonna jump out of the car. We went in fixed that issue and did a full tune up (plugs, wires, coils and timing belt). I then started throwing a regular cylinder 4 misfire. We back tracked and re-checked everything. No luck. Did compression yesterday and found cylinder 4 barely alive (pressure 20). So we are tearing off the left bank next week and starting the investigation. It is acting like a valve or valves. Possibly burnt do to lean running?

Looks like $1500 to do the valves on the left bank (cyl 2 and 4). This is after the $1300 I spent doing everything leading up to this. YAY.

Good Luck out there.

Any follow-up on this? Was cylinder #4's trouble actually broken ring lands?
