Winter's comming and Chicago isn't nice to vehicles.
We pour salt all over the place and it loves to eat metal.
One of my main defences to this issue is spraying some undercoating to protect the undercarriage of my new / used 2005 Baja (remember me?).
Do you know if this is advised for care of a Subaru?

Re: Winter's Comming
Do you think undercoating any vehicle with a rust-inhibitor would be a bad idea?...
seriously, it's probably a good idea. lol. I run mine through a car wash every now and then that has a undercarriage cleaning/protecting spray

well from how I understand it the undercoating in carwashes can actually have a detrimental effect to the coating cars (or some cars) already have pn a lot of their underside parts. So yes I think it can hurt, though I would love to hear from some of the scooby heads that know more specifics about it.

Re: Winter's Comming
i do know that some of the undercoating people use can actually trap moisture between the metal and the coating, causing it to rust faster. you come across this alot in older vehicles when your are doing restore progects, chipping away that protective coating doesnt always mean nice shiny metal is underneath....

Check out more pics!<<<<<< Cardomain Page. *******SOLD THE BAJA*********** But im still around, PM me if urgent!
Re: Winter's Comming
Hey Team,
I'm not talking about going to a car wash and washing the underside of my Baja (I'm no calling it "truck or car anymore
)
I'm talking about going to advanced auto and getting a few cans of black undercoating like a tar. I will spray it on all exposed chassis areas. Not on parts or on the exaust but on the undercarrage of the chassis.

Subaru already applies a undercoating from the factory. If you wanted extra protection you could look @ doing that. Due to the mileage and year of the vehicle they may not be able to have a rust undercoating warranty since the vehicle could have surface rust underneath and if they cover it with the undercoating it could cause it to rust through still.
Thanks

What do you think? I'm planning on doing what I did with mt Toyota and Issuzu (TAR IT 2 Protect It from salt)

Re: Winter's Comming
ok what everyone is saying is some carwash places add a protectant to their undercarriage cleaning service. the problem with this is that it's water based and may hurt more than help, as it would just sit there holing the water. if you just use water the thought is it will dry in minutes and not affect the panel.
your specific question about the tar stuff was covered well by the tech letter you recieved. subaru won't stop you from doing it but if you have any trace of rust on the car when you put that tar on you are more than likely going to trap it and let it eat through the whole panel without you knowing. the letter also implies that if you put on a tar coat subaru can't guaranty that there wasn't any rust on the panels so if you take it in claiming a panel is defective because it rusted they will void your body warrenty due to the coating.

Wow Thank You,
OK, my Baja is a 2005 and I just bought it used. Am I still covered under the rust protection plan?
I've never owned a car from am company that treats me so well,

Re: Winter's Comming
I'd also like to know more about this Rust Protection Plan. Does anyone have any more information about that? How long does this plan stay current with the vehicle? Does it transfer with each new owner of the vehicle?
Re: Winter's Comming
I did find out but I forgot. I think my warentee is expired since I have more than 100k on my baja. I think the warentee does transfer to the new owner though.
Good Luck,
