Newbie Dumb Question

Post by bgc »

I have only had my Baja Turbo for 2000 miles. It has 64000 miles on it. Owners manual says engine oil level should be at the notch on the dipstick and perhaps at the level above when hot. My level is at the level above the notch when the engine is cold!!!

The dipstick is a little hard to read based on other cars I have owned. I will probably go back to my service garage tomorrow. I had the filter and oil changed when I got the car last month.

I do not want the engine to be overfilled.

I will appreciate any help. Sorry for what is probably a dumb question. :?

If the oil level is high, you could just replace the filter. Depending on the filter, it will have at least 200ml in it.

Some people fill the filter before installing it, but in this case I wouldn't.

Thanks jaxed!

I did go back to my servicing mechanic and he says it is O.K. Of course, it was hot at the time.

I guess I am a little concerned since I have not owned a used car in some time and never added oil between changes to the cars I bought new. I have always changed oil every 3,000 miles regardless of the manufacturers recommendation.

I did not know if it was typical for the Baja Turbo to use a little oil. The last two turbo's I had, Ford and Mazda ran a little on the hot side.

Thanks again.
