Torque specs needed!

Post by SoobyToo58 »

I am replacing a Rear Bearing & Hub assembly on my 05 Baja Sport.
Can anyone give me the torque specs for the following parts?
(PLEASE make sure they are specs that are specifically for a Baja and not from a Legacy!)

-Rear Brake Caliper bolts
-Rear Brake Caliper Mounting Bracket bolts
-32mm Center Axle Nut
-Hub Bolts
-Wheel Lug Nuts

Hey greymud,
Thanks for taking the time to respond.
At the top of the web page from your link it reads; "Auto » Japan » Subaru » Baja » 2005 » USDM Legacy FSM 2005 (BT Baja only)"
What does; "jdmfsm" mean?
I was thinking that jdm means Japan domestic market so now I'm confused.
What does ; "USDM Legacy FSM 2005 (BT Baja only)" mean?
What does "BT Baja only" mean?
What I'm concerned about is getting the correct specs for a USDM Baja!
Maybe I'm missing something here.
Thank You!

The following is the path I followed from your link.

Auto » Japan » Subaru » Baja » 2005 » USDM Legacy FSM 2005 (BT Baja only) » 5 CHASSIS SECTION » DRIVE SHAFT SYSTEM DS » Hub Unit Bearing.pdf

In the Hub Unit Bearing.pdf, it gave the torque values for the Brake Caliper Bolts, The Axle Nut and The Wheel Lug Nuts
It did not give the torque values for the Bearing & Hub Assy' Bolts (in the PDF, they call the Bearing & Hub Assy' the Hub Unit Bearing!)
It also didn't give the torque values for the Brake Caliper Mounting Bolts so I need those as well.
Do you know where I can find those?

There's a problem here though!
greymud responded above with a link to a PDF that shows the caliper torque as 39.3ft/lbs while yours shows it at 28.9ft/lbs.
How am I supposed to know which value is correct?
Any ideas about how I can resolve this?

I don't see the discrepancy, the PDF I uploaded has T2 spec at 39ftlbs. Not sure where you see the 28, am I reading something wrong?

Double-check it. For rear brake caliper bolts, it's reading 39 Newton-meters, or 28.9 foot-pounds. I'm seeing these values consistently in the PDF I have on my computer and through the link provided.

Here's the rear bearing (66 N-m or 48.5 ft-lbs) and axle nut (240 N-m or 177 ft-lbs):

Thanks for the clarity Brian, you are absolutely correct, I was looking at the Newton-Meters instead! Fortunately I've always used my German torque wrench on those bolts and set it to Guten-Tite.

Hello my friend,
It appears that the discrepancy is that you were reading the specs incorrectly!
The Rear Brake Caliper Bolts are shown as T2 in your PDF.
The specs at the bottom right of the page show the torque spec. for each different fastener on the same line and expressed in 3 different units of measurement in the following order.

N-m = Newton/Meters
kgf-m = Kilogram force/Meters
ft-lb = Foot/Pounds

It appears you were reading Newton/Meters thinking it was Foot/Pounds. A mistake that anyone could make.

For posterity, the wheel lug nuts torque spec is 80 ft-lbs. this ought to save anyone (i.e., me in the future) from scouring through the manual to hunt this one down.

The specs at the bottom right of the page show the torque spec and for each different fastener on the same line and expressed in 3 different units of measurement. That seems to be a root cause in this case
