Hello Everyone
I want to replace both door locks and
I want to buy new ones (I don't care
that the keys are different from the
ignition key).
It looks like the driver and passenger
locks are different and each side comes
with 2 keys.
So . . . . 2 keys for the drivers side
and 2 keys for the passenger side.
Both sides using different keys though.
I would like both sides to use the same
key. Do I need to have one cylinder
re-keyed? Both rekeyed? Is this
something a locksmith could do,
or is it a dealer thing?
Before I looked, I thought there would
be a "set". Both door locks keyed the
same. There doesn't appear to be such
a thing.
Thanks for your help . . . . Brian

Re: Replacing Door Locks
Before you swap them, take them both to a locksmith and have them changed to match your existing key.

And be prepared for a challenge. The 10MM bolt that holds the back of the latch (and the lock) is next to impossible to get to. I ended up boring a 1'' access hole in the inner door to get to mine after removing the handles for painting. Dennis

Thanks everyone for your help.
Dennis . . . I just looked at a youtube video
of removing the drivers door lock on a 2005
Baja, and while it didn't look like fun, it was
pretty straight-forward, with no drilling.
I can share the link, but I'm not sure if that's
ok to do (it is not a sales pitch, and looks like
it's done by a body shop).
Can someone let me know if it's ok to post
the link (it may also help someone else)
Thanks . . . Brian

Re: Replacing Door Locks
Thanks for posting that. In my opinion, he did it the hard way. I can see where a shop wouldn't want to bore a hole inside of the door, but I didn't want to screw around with the window and window track (done that stuff before, but didn't want to mess with it this time. (I did have rubber plugs to put in the holes when I was done. Was "relieved" to see that he got the gummy tar-goo on his hands - HATE THAT STUFF. Dennis
