2006 a/c question

My Baja needs to be recharged. The sticker that says how much oil and 134a to use is missing. Does anyone out there know how much to use? I have the sticker on my 02 Outback but it doesnt say how much oil either. My shop manual says to look at the sticker lol. Its a vicious cycle.

Thats exactly the same as my Outback. Thank you. No idea how much oil but im thinking there is still oil in it anyway. I guess i will see when it gets put under a vacuum.

Typically, a slow leak will not cause loss of refrigerant OIL, just the refrigerant. A catastropic leak (like a blown hose or accident damage) can cause some of the oil to be lost. Dennis

I know at some point it had been in a front end collision and repaired. Im not sure if it ever worked between then and when i bought it. I know that the low pressure hose had to be replaced because someone screwed the (little valve that i dont remember the name of) all the way in until it touched the back of the hose. When i replaced the hose the system was empty.

Most of the oil resides in the compressor. Guessing how much oil a system needs or has is just that, a guess. From experience too much oil is a bad thing.

Are you talking about the Schrader valve? If it was screwed too far (never seen one go in all the way), th ehose may need to be replaced. I agree that too much oil is a bad thing. The excess oil takes up volume in the system that should be taken by refrigerant. I've seen too many systems where there was excess oil and excess dye. Dennis

Yes thats the name of it. I didnt think it was possible to screw it that far in but someone did. I replaced the hose already. When i put vacuum to the system i guess i will see if any oil comes out.

I finally got the a/c working yesterday. I had to replace 1 o-ring at the compresser. That was easy to find, as soon as i put a little can of dye in the system there was a giant green stain. Nice and cold now.
