Coolant Hose Question

Post by tcat »

Changing my Upper and Lower Hoses on my '05 Baja next weekend. Gates Upper says "Protective Sleeve Required". Is this necessary, and what is it? The OEM ones seem to have something that looks like heat-shrink over the center 75%. Can I peal that off and use it? Refilling with Peak 50/50 Global and Subaru conditioner.

I did not use any protector and have not had any issues. And that coolant is fine..

It's not about the Coolant condition, It's more about the life of the hose, It's placement and the surrounding heat.

I have replaced a couple hundred of them without the"protective sleeve"and have NEVER had an issue......And the condition of your coolant is very important.....

The misrepresentation of the sleeve effecting the coolant condition was what I was referring to.

Yes it's 100's.. I work on Subies on almost a daily basis as they are a very popular vehicle in my area. Wasn't referring anything towards you but someone who has little or no knowledge on this could take your words literally..
