Baja sport lights & parking brake switch

Post by MSHCBH »

2003 Baja with factory installed sport lights & dash switch.
Is there anyway to eliminate the feature that only allows these to be turned on with parking brake engaged?
Seems kind of pointless for off road.
Thanks in advance MSHCBH

Never really heard of an override for the pbrake switch. Would be nice though. That switch is wired that way because it is illegal to drive with those lights on while on the road. If you were using them off road, you could just raise the pbrake handle one click, which is not enough to even take up the slack in the cable, so your brakes wouldnt actually be engaged...

Thanks Sfeather.
Thought of that but have not tried yet. Will try and check slack in pbrake cable. There is some type of relay that keeps the sport lights from working without pbrake engaged, just have to determine how far it has to be engaged. If someone knew where the relay was, I would just eliminate it. Not going to drive around with the sport lights on pavement.

The relay also automatically turns on your headlights when the parking brake is off. I would keep it. just grab power for the lights from some other source. the dash isn't that far away...
