Hello, I have an 03 baja, love it, one of the transmission seals went bad and I lost 5th gear, not sure if its the nut @ the back of the main shaft (im gunna c if its the nut today) if it isnt the nut, I am gunna get a new MT.... i know all baja transmissions will work, and some years of Legacys..... what I'm wondering, does any one know what years and makes of subaru can be placed into my baja? ''
thanks

Please read my post 'Manual Transmission Trouble'. It would be hard to lose the nut on the input shaft since it is staked in multiple places to lock it in place. When you say you lost 5th do you mean it will not shift into 5th or it goes into position for 5th but does not engage the gears?
This link is to a transmission application chart which will help you. As I state in the reference post, you can fit any tranny with the same style out put shafts PROVIDED you either match gearing or replace your rear diiff.

so... loosing 5th gear means I go from 4 to 5 and there isnt any satisfying in 5th gear feel, let off the clutch it just grinds. I got lucky and found a 99 outback transmission with an aggressive 1 and 2 gears so im gunna swap.... i'm going to take photos... n take apart my bad transmission.
I also heard that if the shifting fork was bad i couldnt go into Reverse.... but i can.... weird.

Can you tell where the slack is, in tranny or in linkage? I've got a spare in the garage I will mess around with tomorrow to see where it might get loose.

The bushings in the linkage are probably shot. What part of the linkage did you swap?
There was no slop before?
Can you take a picture of what part of the linkage is still attached to the bad Baja trans?
