Anybody swap in a 2018 WRX muffler?

Post by BajaTim »

Just picked up 2/$25 with only 35k miles - so $12.50 each...
Assuming won’t “bolt right up” but have a mech friend @ $50/hr. who, while not a “muffler specialist” has pipe and welding stuff at his shop.

Any tips/pointers/caveats?

Any chance of me doing this swap (this is just axleback - pipe snapped at muffler join) without welding using universal/generic adapters, hangars, muffler tape, etc. (from Autozone or Amazon, etc.)?

Thanks in advance!

Custom muffler guy was not interested in doing the dual pipe work for me (cuz I’m a gringo I’m sure #mierda) so he just put on a Magnaflow (like last time I guess) with short run of replacement pipe for $250.

So going to sell these beautiful works of art: 2018, 35k, nice n shiny

Was going to ask $150 for the pair - I think they are about $238 each at Subaru Source (cheapest dealer who sells online I believe) - maybe somebody is going back to stock.

If I had more $ would have forced that cabrón to do the dual exhaust.

My other thought was to fo an installation & hang them from my apartment ceiling/wall. #workofart

Those things are pretty much as quiet as an NA muffler, so it's probably for the best you didn't install them.

I like quiet & powerful...not sure if the dual pipe/WRX muffler option would have added anything (unless we just sum the diameters of the WRX muffler in-pipes and compare that to diameter of Magnaflow in-pipe).
