Ignition Lock Cylinder

Post by Baja_CNY »

Hello

Searched posts for anything like this and
found nothing, so I thought I'd ask.

I've found a procedure for removing the
ignition cylinder barrel (not the entire
unit).

========
This is it: put the key in the ignition and turn it
a little until it unlocks the steering. on one side
of the ignition cylinder housing there is a pin
about 3/16" wide which recesses into the ignition
cylinder housing. if you press this in while pulling
out on the key (while it is still turned some) the
keyway will slide out of the ignition.
========

Does anyone know if this works for Baja's? Is
it possible to replace just the barrel?

We have a situation where the key needs
"jiggling" to get it to turn and there's metal
shavings. I want to do something before the
"jiggle" doesn't work.

If you've replace the barrel, or the entire lock
assembly, I'd like to hear your advice and
experience.

Thanks . . . . Brian
