How do I check the manual trassmision levels?

Seriously I have no idea. I have looked in the users manual and tried to find the dipstick based on what it says as well as my haynes manual, but for the life of me I can find it. Can anyone give me any help in locating it? A good description would be good, but a photo with a big circle showing where it is would be better.

It's on the passengers side of the engine, close to the front of the transmission, you might have to move the intake a bit to get to it. It's a short yellow/orange dipstick with a loop at the top, might be really dirty if its never been looked at.

I'll grab a pic if can't find it.

Pretty much look below where the intake goes to the air filter and you should see it.

Thank you so much! I never would have found it without that picture. Not only was it way down in there, but it was covered by a wiring and stuff.

*edit*and as expected my fluid is very low.

Now that you found it, how do you go about re-filling it?

That I know how to do. You basically have to refill it from the same hole that the dipstick goes into either with a long thin funnel or some other method. I may try using a funnel and some tubing. I believe it holds 4.7 qts and you basically have to do a lopt of filling and checking till you get it right.

I never knew there was a dipstick until now. All I've ever seen is a filler plug on the side.

Most newer cars with automatic transmissions don't even have a dipstick.

My Outback has the manual tranny dipstick & fill tube in the same location. I used a section of aquarium tubing to fill it, last time I swapped out the gear oil. Fit one end over the nozzle of the gear oil container. The other end goes in the fill tube

. Takes a bit of patience, too, but it's cleaner than when I tried using a funnel.

The VW Bug I drive around for work has a sealed automatic transmission, too. Haven't heard of any problems with them from anyone else in the company, but it doesn't give me any warm fuzzy feelings
