Re: 06 struts

The outback struts are shorter, so if you want to do those you really should replace all 4 struts so your car isn't "raked" and handles differently (worse).

You can still get struts through the dealer last time I checked. Not as expensive as you'd think.

That's too cool. I have the 5-spoke wheels, any idea if those clear the 4pots too?

Re: Perhaps a rather silly brake pad question

I hadn't heard that the Baja wheels clear the 4 pots fronts with no spacers, that is definitely good info to have!

Re: Perhaps a rather silly brake pad question

I ordered: DP31200C DP3826C for the front and rear, respectively. These are for 2006/2007 USDM WRX, among other cars using those brakes. I have ran a set of these on my turbo cars for years, they are great and look really good. But... I also have a set of conventional WRX Brakes (2002-2005) fronts, ...

Re: Automatic Outback Engine Swap.

I didn't catch that the donor was an outback XT. That's a different generation of electronics, the 4th gens had Canbus.

I'm positive you'll need to swap intake manifolds and all sensors, and the turbo. Unsure about the timing, I suspect that's the same.

Re: Automatic Outback Engine Swap.

No, the auto ecu will freak out if it doesn't detect the auto's TCU. Just run the manual ecu.

Re: Automatic Outback Engine Swap.

The long blocks are the same, so if you have any doubts/concerns about interchangeability, just swap complete intake manifolds and sensors, crank sprocket and driver side top cam gear. I do remember in the 3rd gen legacys, the autos got different timing markers. Well, some early ones did. Later 3rd ...

Re: Oil & coolant fluid change

I use 5w30 Mobil one for oil on my non turbos, Shell Rotella 5w40 for my turbo, and Zerex for coolant.

Re: Timing Belt Subaru Baja Turbo

Mine had the same belt as yours when i got it at 164k miles. The belt was very, very worn but one of the roller bearings had exploded! I'm 99% sure the timing cover had never come off.

Re: Lurker that wanted a Baja turbo

The newest Baja is now 13 years old, and it's reliability really depends on how its owner(s) treated them. Whenever people talk about Honda and Toyota reliability, and mention how all they changed was brake pads & oil, I have to assume that they left a lot of maintenance on the table for the next ow...

Re: Garage Lighting

I'd also recommend LED's. As far as color goes, the lower the better as higher numbers makes for harsher perceived lighting. The closer you can get to 4300k, the more natural lighting everything will be, leading to less eye strain. Talking about fixtures, you'll probably be more than fine with 4x 4-...

Wtb Jack and Tools

I bought a 2003 Baja that came with no jack, tools, owner's manual or anything. I've purchased the owner's manual on eBay but I am looking for the jack, the screw that holds it in, and all the tools in their pouch.

I'm located just south of Seattle if that matters.

Thanks,
Mike

Re: EJ20Y Baja Turbo Swap!

It's not an option for everyone, but I took an ej22 NA short block and matched that to ej20 wrx heads. I rebuilt the bottom end, while reusing the same pistons. It's not as torquey as an ej25 of course, but with the higher compression and the smaller td04-19t turbo it's miles better than the ej20 it...
