Re: First CEL since I bought my 2003

Same code that I intermittently get, but only when driving at a steady 80km/h with the temperature below 10 degrees C, and something to do with the alignment of the stars. Either way, after I reset the code, it's still able to pass emissions tests.

Re: Had clutch replaced in 03 Baja professionally. Lots of side effects?

Depending on how the clutch was accessed, different things need to be undone; either the engine can be removed leaving the transmission in place, or the transmission can be removed without touching the engine. Personally, I removed the transmission when I did my clutch, because I don't have an engin...

Re: Filled up coolant but it dropped back down in about a month

Look around the engine bay, and if you see some white crusty residue, it could be evidence of a coolant leak. There are also coolant lines that go into the throttle body, for example, so don't only check around the radiator.

Re: Transmission Swaps and differentials.....

I want to say that I thought I saw the ratio for autos was 4.44... but that could have been from a hazy dream in a different life. If anything, manually rotate the rear differential and count the number of turns. If the shaft end of the differential turns just over 22 times for 5 turns of the wheels...

Re: What did you do to your Baja today?

Picked up some used Bilstein shock/spring/mount assemblies from a Legacy GT as a souvenir from Japan about a month ago for $55USD, and finally got some time to start installing them yesterday. Only had time to do the fronts, because I found the inner CV boot finally cracked open, so the time I would...

Re: CVT Tranny

I haven't done it, but I'd guess unless you have either an aftermarket transmission management computer, or aftermarket engine management computer that can work with the stock Subaru CVT TCM, it won't work. You'd also need a drive-by-wire throttle. Of course, all this assuming it'll physically fit...

Re: Ac kicking on for no reason?

If the AC switch is off, the blower dial NOT set to either defrost & feet or defrost, and the interior fan dial is turned off, my A/C compressor doesn't cycle. The A/C compressor cycling is only linked to the cooling fans cycling when it's turned on (A/C switch or defrost), and at that time, bot...

Re: What's Your VOTE Keep The 5 or upgrade to a 6 Speed

I remember hearing the 5- and 6-speeds have the same (or very similar) top gear ratios, so it won't make a difference when cruising on the highway. It's the other gears that have different ratios so you can be within the engine's power band more consistently. Check http://www.gearhack.com/Forums/Aut...

Re: Ac kicking on for no reason?

Just to confirm, the air flow direction switch isn't in either of the two windshield settings, right? The defogger uses the AC compressor to remove moisture from the air before blowing it against the windshield.

Re: Hid kits ? Any luck

I have an HID kit, and they work well. For the headlights, you need to make positive and negative power wires are going into the ballast correctly. On mine, red was NOT positive... Also, the DRLs appear to work by sending a lower voltage to the headlights, which the HIDs don't like. You'll need to d...

^ Supposed to be Grim Reaper playing Mailbox Baseball (mostly for mischief night). Hehe yeah, I got it. It just looks like the Baja is floating, because the road isn't well-defined. If there was a faint sidewalk/curb to indicate the other side of the road, it might look clearer, without being too d...
