Re: Got ripped off

$500 for that is just crazy. For under $700 I got new rotors and calipers, front and rear (pads too maybe? I don't remember). To be fair, if the car is actually a rusty mess, it takes waaaay more time, effort, and headaches to do pretty much any form of car repair. Either way, I wouldn't go back to ...

Re: Multiple missfires

I had the exact same symptoms (running lean, followed by CEL for misfire) on my 2003 at around 195,000 miles. My cat's seen better days, but they don't do emissions tests in my state so oh well  I'll get to it. Replacing the plugs and wires did nothing for me, then I replaced the knock sens...

Re: Grille Interchangeability

The eyeball test tells me it won't fit. The bottom corners look the same but the vertical portion of the sides are longer on the Baja's grille (I think). IIRC the baja's face is borrowed from the Outback, not the Legacy. Before dropping $$$ on a grille, maybe do some measurements and hit up a junkya...

Re: Newbie - Headgasket versus Junkyard Swap

Hate to bump a mostly-dead thread, but maybe this is worthwhile. Up here in MN, we have a really good subie shop who's kind of the go-to for head gaskets, VCGs, etc. When they do head gaskets on the EJ251, they replace them with the MLS gaskets used on the Forester XT engine. The MLS gaskets suppose...

I KNEW mine looked different! It must be a Classic trim.

Re: Subaru Baja MPG thread

'03 n/a 5-speed manual, 191k miles. Getting around 22mpg, mostly city miles. I'm hoping for better, this is my first daily with a manual so I've been a little hard on it by accident a couple times

Re: Whining noise from front/rear

Thanks, guys! I'll probably have to get the bearings done at a shop, sadly that's gonna be $$$. I'll check the diff fluid too, just to be safe.

Whining noise from front/rear

Hey all: I recently picked up an '03 baja. It has 191k miles, but it seems like it was taken care of (single previous owner). I still have a lot to do (replace a busted rear tail light, replace missing hole cap things in bed, reupholster driver's seat, replace busted fog light) but for $3250, it's a...
