Re: 4 TURBOS IN 2000 MILES.

I would think the cat would be DOWNSTREAM of the turbo. I also would not count "Chinese turbos" as failures. Because of the extremely high operating speed of a turbo, I would only consider a factory remanufactured unit, a new unit (quality) or a turbo specialist to work on it (one more re...

4 TURBOS IN 2000 MILES.

I bought this 2006 Baja that has eaten 3 turbos in about 1500 miles. The first turbo went at 110k miles, The second turbo went shortly there after. I didn't know about number 2 until later. I bought the car last fall and number 3 went immediately broke the shaft. The first 3 had broken shafts, so I ...

Re: Sunroof issues

You guys just revealed another problem I have. My sun roof opens fine, but when I close it, it goes a few inches then stops, hit the switch again and it closes all the way. I'm still trying to find something that worked correctly on my Baja. John, that's a safety feature that all Subaru sunroofs ha...

Re: Seeking suggestions from the experts

I enjoy driving my Baja, but they are querkey. I need an ignition key made, I have to drive the car 180 miles to the nearest dealer. They can't make a key, they have to program it. I really don't like having on 1 ignition key for any car. My Baja needs a right side valve cover gasket at 111,000 mile...

Re: What did you do to your Baja today?

Installed a new catback exhaust. Originally went with a Walker midpipe and Bosal muffler, but the Walker pipe arrived full of unfinished welds with 1/2in holes. So now it's a full Bosal catback. DSCN1472.JPG My baja is so quiet now!!! Manifold still leaks but it's nowhere near as bad as the flex jo...

Re: DIPSTICK

Are you draining and filling or changing the filter too? Stop being OCD and measuring your oil by the 1/10ths. Buy a 5qt jug and top 'er off. You'll burn that much before you check it again anyway. You are correct, from now on, it's 5 quarts. The vehicle has settled down and is running well. I plan...

DIPSTICK

I have been having trouble with my Baja Turbo showing enough oil on the dipstick. I put in the amount per the owners manual for at 4.2 quarts and it would not be full. Last night I was surfing and saw where the Turbo cars have are dual cams and need 4.8 quarts. I have not added the additional 19.2 o...

Re: Any problems with your Baja????

This vehicle requires the most maintenance of any vehicle I have ever owned. You know, I don't think I'd call what you've had to do "maintenance". As I recall (I could be wrong here) you bought a Baja that had been "rode hard, and put away wet". I'd consider this more restorativ...

Re: Any problems with your Baja????

I have had the filler neck and vent tubes rust out and give a constant odor of fuel. I also had the return line rust away. The hole was on the drivers side between the rocker and fuel tank. Ive never owned a turbo, i didnt want the extra headaches. Thank you, I don't have fuel fumes yet, but I will...

Re: Any problems with your Baja????

Check the filler neck and tubes next to it. Also the fuel lines between the drivers side rocker and fuel tank. I had an Outback that had both problems within a year. What problems did you have with filler neck and fuel lines. My latest problem was the car would not idle with the a/c on. I cleaned t...

Re: Turbo didn't like it's bushings

So my turbo died a couple days ago on a road trip and I'm trying to find a new one but not wanting to pay 1k from Subaru. Anyone know any reputable options/ has anyone had theirs rebuilt? I had one rebuilt. I bought a good used Turbo from a member. It didn't have any play, but had been sitting for ...

Re: My Baja is on the road

mike-tracy: My post sounded like I ordered the parts from Albuquerque, I ordered the dipstick from Renton Subaru. They were very nice and I recieved my part quickly. I was not very clear. I have to get a handle on how much oil my Baja needs. The owners manual says about 4.5 Quarts. I put that amount...

Re: Any problems with your Baja????

I feel a lot better now, went out and checked the oil this morning after sitting overnight and it was exactly to the same place on the dipstick as 200 miles ago. I will try another dip stick, I know a fellow here who has an identical Subaru. Now I can go after another problem, I can smell raw fuel i...

Re: Any problems with your Baja????

@harleyjohn45, there is a thread in the Technical Discussions board that is entitled "Oil Level Reading" or something similar where there is some discussion on the the oil level and dipstick. As I note in that discussion, my level varies widely, even in the few days after a change. I pret...
