Re: Maybe someone knows.

Joe it looks like the 2 steel lines to the inter cooler, the one in the rear appears to not be connected or it is blocked off. Harleyjohn, yes, the picture was taken during assembly, they all ended up getting connected prior to finishing up. The only easy access pic I had (short of going outside an...

Beautiful find Outboardr!
You are definitely going to have some fun driving that.

Tim, What did you end up doing about your Baja? I don't see any followoup. If you want to bring it down to CT I'd be glad to help you repair it!

Re: Valve Cover Gasket Brands

If I remember correctly you also need to put RTV around the cam "humps" on the front side also. I've used the Felpro gaskets, no problems... yet. They are a royal PIA to put on with the engine in the car. I accidentally lost the halfmoon on the passenger side on my o4 Turbo and it slipped into the h...

Re: Maybe someone knows.

When I pulled the engine out to do head gaskets on my 05 turbo I bought a bunch of silicone hose in various sizes from Amazon. I changed any cracked lines with the hose and it's been working great for the last 20k.

Re: Newly issued recall.

Yep!
Just got my recall notice in the mail today for the second time on my 05.
I checked carfax, they have a nifty area called mycarfax where you can enter in your vins and it keeps things updated for you, my other Bajas don't have the second recall in affect yet.

Re: Pulsing / surging Baja engine

I've had great luck with the $10 bluetooth OBD2 readers from Amazon and spending the $5 for Torque Pro. Highly recommended for tracking down this kind of problem.

Re: Newbie - Headgasket versus Junkyard Swap

How was the original engine doing other than the headgaskets? If it wass running fine and not burning any oil I'd go with the repair of the existing. Ballpark price for doing it yourself is about $200 for the timing belt kit, $100 for heads being machined and another hundred for the Felpro MLM (mult...

Re: Working on my 06 Turbo "Patches"

Thanks for the pictures on doing the rust repairs on the doglegs inside the doors. That's a great job. Did you fab the sheetmetal yourself or did you cut pieces out of junk cars?
I've got that rust issue on 2 of my Bajas and trying to get up the courage to work on it.

Re: Multiple missfires

I had sporadic misfires on my 2005 Turbo baja for a while. My problem ended up being a vacuum leak from a cracked vacuum line under the throttle plate. Only way I found it was by doing a smoke test on it which wasn't as difficult as I expected. I made a smoke machine from a $5 Walmart soldering iron...

Re: Looking at a 2005 Turbo

One thing I've noticed on my turbo Bajas which I don't see on my OBW is rusting/rotting of the engine cradle. I have 2 '04 turbos which both need the cradle replaced and my '05 which appears pristine everywhere else is showing surface rust on the cradle. In all instances the rust/rot is by where the...

Re: Rear brake rotor install problem

Jumping in a little late to the discussion but wanted to add my experience to the collective. Last fall I had to change the rear rotors on one of my '04 Turbo Bajas. I bought the Advance Auto Part rotors and when I put them on I found they were scraping in the back. Looking at the center of the roto...
