Re: CVT Transmission Swap

manual to CVT??? BURN THE HERETIC! good god why? What are the brands you bought? You bet that's very aftermarket, probably meant to be a "race" setup which is going to chatter if you try to run it like a standard soft OEM clutch. Could also be assembly issues. without knowing more about yo...

Re: Head gasket materials

I would imagine they're "proprietary mix of materials engineered for the best performance" and you'd have better luck sending them to a materials lab. Keep in mind even if you do get a match on the alloy for the MLS turbo gaskets, that's only half the picture as heat treating, tempering, e...

Re: Facebook Baja Group ( Subaru Baja Owners Club 2.0 )

Yea, I'm on both FB Baja groups but I wouldn't stoop to pushing facebook groups over traditional forums . Facebook's a terrible platform for actually dealing with information. and I wouldn't be dickish enough to do it ON said forum. Why not just be apart of the original subaru baja owners club and b...

Re: Baja price question....Canada

Can't speak for availability in the great white north but if 16k ca = 11k us then it's a bit overpriced for my area... a big bit. but that's also the dealership markup. up on maintenance helps but with admitted cosmetic damage, auto, that age, and that kind of mileage, oof

Re: Baja Turbo spark plug change; how awful is it?

Cool hearing all the replies. Sounds like this is a real PITA. Not at all. lifting the engine is 2 bolts on each side and a few inches of 2x2: doing it again would be a half hr job. All about perspective: to do plugs on an LT1 F-body requires an extra 3 elbows and arms the size of a toddler but 3 f...

Re: Baja Turbo spark plug change; how awful is it?

This is something specific to the Bajas and turbos. other models and engine's info doesn't apply. The NAs are a piece of cake to change the plugs: pull the battery and washer fluid tank and viola. I wasn't able to find the magic angle to get the coil packs out with the engine in place so I unbolted ...

Never tried them but I can't see how they would. They limit safe top speed (or they fly out) and chew the pavement up which is why some places ban them unless there's nastiness out.

Re: What makes Subarus good in snow?

Don't get the idea we're saying drivetrain doesn't matter, it certainly helps in some situations it's just that it only helps accelerate and only if you know what you're doing, steer/handle. It doesn't help steer or brake which are more important than acceleration. In my RWD Cressida with a 5-speed,...

Re: Looking for stiffer shocks

How many miles on the struts? Have you considered they're just worn out? I have kings on my 03 with KYB struts (for the 03) which were fine other than my overloading (as in 800lb safe in the bed among other abuses) them a few times causing them to wear prematurely. FYI the taco strut uses the taco s...

Re: What makes Subarus good in snow?

Mostly ignorance and bad tires LOL Tires matter more than drivetrain but having a mechanically linked (like what's in the manual bajas) system is better for preventing loss of traction in many situations because power is spread to all the wheels first. In most modern computer controlled AWD systems,...

Re: Considering buying a 2005 Turbo

Remember the banjo bolt is a secondary filter. It only fills up if conditions are such that dirt is bypassing the primary oil filter. IE revving on cold start, clogged filter, really bad oil, etc

Correct, the turbos use a MLS head gasket not prone to the external oil leaks the NAs get.

Re: Suspension help

I need to look into it for mine as well but early 00s front for the taco parts IIRC. You'll need the spring, strut, and adapter for the upper mounts.

Re: 2004 Subaru Baja Sport/Turbo (pearl/silver) - $5200 OBO Los Angeles, CA

Just for clarification, "sport" is the base model, not the fast one (for every manufacturer). "turbo" is the trim you have not "sport/turbo"

Re: Can I squeeze out another 1

I haven't been on Facebook in years ... Like 5+ at least. I'm not terribly concerned about axle life. They're relatively easy to replace and if I get at least 5+ years out of them I would be happy. I emailed ADF and he said I can go 4" as long as I have a front subframe spacer, steering shaft ...
