To tow or not to tow-that is the question...

Post by beancountertx »

My 2005 Baja does not have a towing hitch and I am debating on whether I should get one. I have read that "Car Weight: Weight of the car also affects the mileage. Extra weight loaded in the car trunk puts extra pressure on the car engine. This eventually results in higher fuel consumption." (autoviewpoint.com). Is the weight of the hitch actually going to make a difference? :?:

The additional weight never made a difference in my mileage that was noticeable. I average around 21 over several dozen tanks worth, city/local and long distance combined. They are a bit of a pain to install yourself and the wiring is also tricky unless you buy the Subaru harness which plugs right in to an existing port in the back (I did - way easy and worth the extra $). Put on a tranny cooler if you do go that route........cheap insurance. Good luck!
