Dimensions of storage area behind the back seat

Post by jcravens »

Anyone happen to know the dimensions of the storage area behind the back seat of an 06 Baja Sport? I want to make a couple of storage "bags" to hang from the head rests down behind the seat. Tired of having to stack my stuff then carefully hold it in place while i quickly slam the seat back before everything falls. i think a triangular cross section hanging bag might be the ticket... if i can figure out how much room there is between the seat and the rear hatch. Cheers!

I believe hr's talking about INSIDE the cabin and behind the rear seat. It would be a very narrow space. Dennis

Yes, ZUBAJA is correct... inside the cabin. Best i can tell, it is 4-ish in. at the bottom, tapering off at the top... but not sure how tall it is before the seat contacts the bulkhead. i think i can create a nice tool kit in that space.

Yes the cargo net I linked is for behind the rear seat, not the bed.

Hmmm... looks like the upper attachments of that go to the latch loop... wouldn't that make closing and latching the seat back in the upper position impossible?
I use a similar setup that is readily available at Canadian Tire that I hang from the rear headrests as JCravens suggested. It stays up when the seat is folded down.
Sorry, no picture... :?

The sear rear seat locking clamps are on the top sides, not on the back.
(lock between the two circles, note the plastic backing of the seat is removed)

Those hooks on the back of the seat you are referring to are there just to provide a grabbing edge for stuff... like cargo nets.

OK, so here's what I ended up with: I went with the cargo net suggested by Guacamole (thank you for that) and, while shopping for the net, found these boss tool rolls. It's a tight fit with the blanket and poncho in the net, but I've got a decent tool kit in the brown roll, a decent 1st aid kit plus some survival supplies in the orange roll, and room between them for jumper cables, a folding trenching tool (shovel), a traffic control wand, and a small sledge hammer.

Wow; I never realized how much room there is back there! With the net and a couple of the new-fangled shopping bags that can be looped over the headrests, I can hold almost as much "stuff' as I'd store in the trunk of a sedan if it were a Legacy. Thanks for the tip! :D

Does the seat fold up with all that stuff in there? Dennis

There is a fleece blanket under the poncho, so it's a tight fit, but the seat does fold back up. Also note that i added some tabs and screws to the bottom of the net so the blanket/ poncho won't slip down into the seam where the seat folds.
