H6 EZ30D 5 SPEED Baja !!
First, I,m so glad that I found this forum, I've had my baja for the last 6-7 months and it's awesome !!!
Well well well, I'm from Montreal, Quebec and I got a 03 classic baja black and silver 2,5n/a 5 speed.
This baja is my third subaru before I had a 92 JDM WRX STI and also 97 impreza
Baja aren't very common here and I couldn't resist to this one when I saw it...
I paid 7K for a 167k miles one, which later I discovered was having some problems....
I'll post pics later tonight.
4 months ago, my front/center diff started to make a huge clunking noise when hot and turning tight... I got used to it and got easy with it for another three months..
Last month I decided to replace my tranny when I got a deal on a LGT 05 tranny... Pull the engine and tranny out, bam!!! I see both headgaskets losing coolant and oil...
SO LET THE INSANITY BEGIN !!!
I sold the old engine and transmission for 300$
I got a deal for a complete smashed 2001 h6 Outback Limited with VDC for 600$
and right now I'm doing the swap in the car.
This baja is gonna be EZ30D H6 5 speed
I Got my OBX Header from Ebay
I also bought a VSSpro from DCCDpro
And a Bully stage 2 Clutch
At the same time I'll swap the heated windshield, mirrors, seats, complete McIntosh Audio System and the Auto Climate Control
Future plans for the car are...
Full stainless 2,5in exhaust with magnaflow muffler and dual twintip exit
Gorilla bar with fogs
and for next summer a nice set of coilover to slam it on the ground
maybe repaint it to be black on black
some wide 19 in wheels
custom tonneau cover
and last but not least... a beautiful M90 Supercharger from a GM 3800
I hope you'll enjoy my build as much as me

Re: Hello All, Mewbie inside
Really you need the complete donor car..
there is a lot involved in the swap...
mechanically it's not too bad but you need to swap everything from the H6, but the real fun begin with the wiring...
there is a couple of differences, In my case I had to merge these..
Abs system : (I merged the 2 harness to keep my stock abs)
VDC : (remove from H6 harness/merge with abs)
VSS system : (I've put a 05+ canbus tranny without a VSS, Had to install a VSSPro)
Cluster signal : (VSS and RPM you need to keep the H6 cluster)
Cargo lamp circuit : (no cargo lamp on the outback wiring, see next line)
Backup lamp circuit : (wired the cargolamp with them, you need diodes)
L+R brake lamp circuit : (need to wire them with the 3rdbrake light)
Rear flasher : (wire them in the original backup lamp with diodes)
Shifter input : (if you go manual)
Clutch switch (2) : (if you go manual)
The extras :
Climate control system : (I had manual, now I have auto climate control)
Radio : (had a normal, now a McIntosh)
Heated seats : ( Didn't have before, now yes)
Heated Mirrors : ( Didn't have before, now yes)
Heated windshield : ( Didn't have before, now yes)
The down:
Constant p1596 CEL always on (no driveability issue, gonna work on this later)
My door lock remote doesn't work anymore because there is no integrated unit on the outback (I can put a aftermarket remote starter with doorlock)
BUT... It will be easy if you keep the auto tranny...

Re: Hello All, Mewbie inside
WELL WELL WELL.....
The swap is done at 95% and with my shitty karma I think I got a ez30 with blown head gasket... I still need to do a pressure test while the engine is hot...
Some pictures of it with the coilover on.... you can see in the pics that I still have penty of adjustement on the shock body...
NEED MORE LOWWWWWW...
I need to get an alignement.... SORRY for the dirt... water is not reopened at my garage...
now the pics with the 19'' and 245/35zr19...

Re: Hello All, Newbie inside, well not so newbie in fact
Welcome. I'm excited to see your build, I have a H6 in my basement with possible plans for my Baja.
Re: Hello All, Newbie inside, but EZ30D Baja !!
Hey just curious to see if there were any updates on your project. I always wanted a h6 impreza wagon and as soon as I got my baja that is what popped up in my mind. I love the thought of a H6 N/A instead of the 2.5 turbo.
Either way would love to see how this turns out.
Good Luck
Greg

Re: Hello All, Newbie inside, but EZ30D Baja !!
I worked on a couple of things in the last weeks and it's coming along nicely... I juste have to figure out how to wire the brake lights and rear turn signals to work together as the wiring is different on the baja and the outback... I need to finish putting the interior together
- The McIntosh radio is fully wired and it sounds amazing !!!
- The windshield/mirrors have defrost now
- Wiring for the heated seats is done but I kept my baja seats... so, no heat yet..
- The engine runs and has a ''temporary exhaust''
- Got some CEL's to check out
- Have to finish bleeding the air in the coolant system
- The A/c fan is missing
- I don't have a rear O2 sensor for now
- Need to take an appointement to the garage/alignement shop to get the winter tires mounted and the car aligned
- Have a real exhaust done with 2,5 in stainless and magnaflow mufflers
I can't work on it as I want because the garage is unheated and 50km away from my home...

Re: Hello All, Newbie inside, but EZ30D Baja !!
got it running fine this last weekend except one thing...
the clutch is slipping a little... I gotta order a new clutch disc...
and some minor with the vsspro for the vehicule speed sensor signal to the dash/ecu
I also got the flashers in the backup light now so they are white... not in the red outer lens as before
and rewired the cargo lamp to light at the same time than the backup lamp...
I can reverse in the pitch black and I see everything !!! this is awesome!!!

Hey awesome to hear on the progress!!!
I would love to hear some pics if you happen to have any. And I understand about the garage being cold. My sop is heats but when its 10 degrees out and you open the shop door it takes ten minutes to warm back up.

I pulled the engine one more time and put back the original clutch.. no more clutch slipping... a couple of other issues to deal with, but it's driveable now

Hey wh have the same coilovers!!
Well I've had mine for 3 years but I haven't installed them yet! I think it would look weird with the stock wheels but then again you'rs looks pretty good!
how do you like the ride? I might install the coil overs now that I see what it looks like

Would love to see some under the hood pics of the swap. I am going to do the exact same swap and then throw in a low boost (7 PSI or so) MP62 super charger. I just need to find a front clip, where did you get your donor car?

Re: Hello All, Newbie inside, but EZ30D Baja !!
in a scrapyard near my job... I got the complete car for 600$...
It was smashed in the front. I had to buy a new radiator, hoses and 2 new fans(these bitches are expensive!!!!)
the yard had sold the exhaust too, I had to buy an OBX Header and some misc parts that were damaged
also I discovered last weekends that I need to change the headgaskets... mehh not cool... at least I didn't paid too much for the car and I swapped everything that was possible to the baja...
BTW once the headgasktets and full 2,5in exhaust will be done... it will be for sale...
