2006 Baja Turbo Running Rough

Post by Steve.G.Sanders »

About 101k miles. Not a daily driver, but doesn't sit too much either. Recently started running rough at startup and at low RPM. If the boost builds, it will produce good power. Mid to upper RPM runs great.

Replaced plugs around 95k. Checked them and all look about the same, slightly sooty but nothing alarming.

Checked resistance on all coils. No inconsistencies.

Ended up replacing the MAF and both O2 sensors. (Long story)

No indication of oil and water cross-contamination or spark plug inconsistencies indicating head gasket problem, but have not done compression or leak-down test. Given performance at higher RPM & boost leads me away from gasket suspicions.

Not setting any codes consistently. The only time it's generated any codes since this started was one occurrence and it generated mis-fire on all four cylinders at the same time.

Also checked the intake system for contamination by removing the intercooler. No oil or anything else unexpected.

Help needed...

Thanks.

non-working TGVs should throw a code but if there's a problem in the manifold (loose, misaligned) that wouldn't. cleaned the throttle body lately? done a leak check on the manifold and inlet system? post-MAF air leaks are worse with less airflow because the leak is a larger portion of the total air coming into the engine.

Intake leak of some kind was next on my list. Haven't touched the throttle body either.
Thanks!
