Sway bar question

Post by tdumey »

I’m not happy with the way my 06’ Baja pitches and sways at highway speeds, I’d like to tighten things up a bit. Whiteline offers sway bars for earlier years but their bars are not listed for the 06’. Can someone let me know why and if there is any workaround that would make them work on an 06’?

Thanks, Tim

The Mt Turbo sway bars should be the same for the 04-06 bajas since they're the exact same suspension, so an 04/05 part should fit perfectly on an 06.

Which Whiteline parts are you looking at if you don't mind me asking?

Off the top of my head I think I read the Tribeca (26 mm?) front sway bar is a direct bolt on with no adjustments; and the 2004 STI rear sway bar (20mm?) is also a direct fit...but again “off the top”
without checking my notes.

I have my spare removed so perhaps rear fits with no spare:)

How old are the struts? Bajas are sprung stiffly enough that they won't "pitch and sway". If the struts are worn, nothing else you do will fix it.

Note: my baja passed the bumper-push test and the only indication I had was how it moved over bumps... not that it kept bobbing but how much it moved for a given force. also, shifting gears produced a higher amount of pitch and felt like I was in my first weeks of driving stick that I had to concentrate so hard to get a smooth shift... basically, because I have an auto tech degree and spent several years in a suspension shop and could feel it in ways that are hard to describe.

Thanks for the reply’s. The whiteline bars listed on their site are:

Front - BSF15
Rear - BSR12XZ

Only 45,000 miles on this Baja, and I noticed this swaying when I bought it with 21K two years ago so I don’t think the struts are shot. I was coming out of a Mazdaspeed 3 with Koni Sports and just chalked it up to higher COG and softer suspension. But I’d like the Baja to corner flatter too and am interested if anyone has tried these thicker bars and if it improved handling.

So if 05’ suspension is exactly same they should fit.

So in other words, the seals are shot because they're 13 years old and sat more than they moved. In the variety of vehicles I've owned, I've found (and read many corroberating stories) that sittings as bad as driving once a car's over 10 years old, regardless of the miles. I have a '94 Firebird with 45k that's leaked more oil (for the last 10+ years that I've known it) than the all my other cars together.

So from what I've learned so far, the 05-06 struts are kind of "hens teeth". Where'd you find them? Dennis
