SAE hardware for trailer hitch mounting...

Post by whitrzac »

I picked up a second hand hitch without the mounting hardware. I spent longer than I will admit to trying to figure out why the 14mm bolts I have would not fit.

Subaru decided it would be a good idea to mount the hitch with SAE 1/2in hardware.

WTF subaru.

That's interesting; I bought a hitch in 2015 for my '05 and the hardware was SAE, but the weldnuts on the truck were metric. The company sent me the correct metric bolts for free.

So they must have changed it at some point. My 03 sport was for sure 1/2-13 hardware.

Mine was metric, I chased the threads to cut down on the rust and I don't have too many SAE taps.
