Compatiable Subaru OEM Bolt On Suspension

Post by ChrisIB »

I have a 04 Turbo and I would like to change my suspension to a lower profile. I would like to go the OEM route. I was wondering if I could buy a 04 STI shock and struts and bolt them on. If the "STI" is not a good option then maybe a wrx or any Subaru that will enhance the suspension in handling and corner and such things of that matter. I know sway bars and end links will need to be changed as well and that in it's self brings up another question. Can I also bolt on say bars and end links from different models to enhance the suspension. I would like to thank y'all for your time.

I don't think STI rears are compatible, but I believe there is a guy on the facebook page who did it recently. Legacy GT stuff is compatible for sure.

STi rear struts are totally different. You could get a set of coil overs and lower it that way, you can also use the rear subframe from another model subaru (legacy wagon I *think*) And there are standoffs between the frame and subframe that you may be able to remove, I left mine in when I lifted it but as I recall they slip out easily but I can't recall for sure if there were on every bolt position so that you could pop them out and bolt the subframe closer to the frame, give it a look.

Thanks guys very much. It looks like it will be coil overs then. I don't think I want to fabricate the sub frame. I just made a ass out of myself and assumed the shocks and struts were interchangeable due to so many other parts being interchangeable. My wife has a 06 Outback and I wanted to do the same thing. I don't have brand new car money so I try to do what I can when I can. For example she needs new tires desperately. She has the standard OEM 06 Outback rim. I know the bolt pattern is 5x100 and I do believe the offset is 48 or close pease don't quote me. I bought a set of 2015 Crosstrek rims. I know they are 5x100 but I do believe the offset is a little different but it shouldn't be problem due to the fact she is using oem calipers. I don't plan on doing or a better description is attempt a brake upgrade any time soon. This allows me to keep her happy so I don't have to keep revolving in debt like these other smucks out here.

So would it be safe to say these are compatible with the Baja?

No idea if you would also need other stuff like struts, but it is my understanding that the suspension connections are the same for legacy, outback, and baja.

Not mine but a member of the Facebook group just swapped 2012 wrx suspension on his baja. He did have to reuse the baja top hats. Also, the rear struts will need a little modification. The hole on the bottom of the strut will need to be drilled out. The Baja uses a larger bolt.

I should have read the title a little better. What I mentions is compatible and oem but not completely a simple bolt on

Thanks very much brother. That was the first picture I have seen. That sit pretty low. I really appreciate that. Looks like he has STI 17's on. That scoob definitely got slammed. I think I'm going to go the coil over route because of the adjustability. I'm not no tuner or specialist to say the least, but after a career change I have had ample time to appreciate all wheel drive turbo engineering meaning I like to tinker because I think it's the coolest ISH in the world. I didn't show y'all any pictures of my Scoob because I'm embarrassed. I have a 04 turbo 5 speed with 86 on the clock. I bought the vehicle last year as a toy because I find the power plant design and AWD aspect very interesting. The vehicle had a minor accident and the hood is damaged and the fourth gear grinds into gear only at high RPMS. I changed the fluid but it helped alit. I'm going to purchase a clutch and lightweight flywheel. I also just ordered "performance" shifter bushings lol we will see. I drove EURO's my whole adult life and I feel like a fool for missing out on many years. I will put a pic of the turd when it gets light out so you guys can get a good laugh. I just didn't realize how hard it is to get a hood.
