2006 Baja - check engine light

Post by Raggedgarden »

I need your help.
My baja has 86K miles on it
A few weeks ago the Check Engine light came on - went off - came on -
I thought maybe gas cap ? replaced
But then came back on - not blinking - got code checked - P0304
Took to reliable mechanics who said - #4 ingnition coil - replaced
One day no light - then BAM - came back on
Took it back
After two days they told me they think it is the Ethanol in gas - blamed it all on the Ethanol additive
Poured in a lot of various cleaners - told me light might stay on
Rides rough at IDLE and low RPMs - runs fine at higher speeds and RPMs
BUT now moments the light flashes then stops flashing
Is this plausible ? Ethanol? They told me to get SeaFoam and put in a bottle every other fill

The best I can find really is the VAGUE 10% (may contain) - my mechanic says moving target - I can find NO Ethanol gas but it is only regular - ONE gas station in my neck of the woods

That code means a misfire... have you changed the spark plugs and wires? I would probably do those before ignition coil and running around looking for exotic fuels. I doubt it's the "up to 10% ethanol"... my 2003 Baja with way more miles has no problem with any commonly-available gasoline. Injector is also a possibility, but plugs and wires are cheaper and easier.
