Clunking noise... Help.

Post by Anomaly »

I've noticed after I come to a stop and shift my '03 automatic either from drive to reverse or the other way around, I get a small clunk when I first accelerate. I know this is usually a loose/broken mount, a CV or something like that. I was just wondering what is the most common cause on this vehicle, so I can hopefully resolve the issue more quickly. Thanks in advance.

My 06 auto does that too. I put her in reverse & go back maybe a foot & just hear a "thunk!", no vibration just a mild clunk noise.
I've done a little digging & it may be a loose/worn U-joint.

EDIT:
Apparently a loose/worn U-Joint can also result in a clicking noise at low speeds, ~5-30mph (which I have, just figured it was the flimsy heat shield rattling).
I found this vid, sounds to be similar to the issues I have, might help you as well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f8qNkTHJ-gE :D
