Baja RMPs at cruising speed

Post by ags0702 »

I am wondering what engine RPM everyone's Baja is running at highway speed.
My 06 N/A, auto runs right at 3000 rpm at 70. That seems high to me. I was also wondering what a 5 speed Baja would run a different rpm at 70. It seems like subaru could have knocked the rpm down a bit to maximize highway speed fuel efficiency and still maintain enough power in high gear.

I recently drove a rental 2013 ford fusion with a 2.4 4 cylinder (I believe it was about 160 hp) from NC to NJ 450 miles each way and this thing was cruising at 2100-2200 rpm at 70 mph! How come our subarus can't cruise like this?!

05 N/A auto and I can run 3000 at 80 and 3500 at 90. I have been researching a little, and it seems are final drive ratio is higher than most others. The Legacy and Outback would have less torque but lower highway rpms. I don't see a fuel mpg increase according to fueleconomy.gov.
