recommended new spark plugs?

Post by Zombaja »

It's almost tune up time here in San Jose. I'm thinking new plugs for my 05 turbo.

Any recommendations from the experienced members here? Anything "better" than the rest?

are NGK platinums still "the bomb" or are Splitfires still cool? :) I think I have a few in a box next to my Hypercolor and Hulkamania T shirts. (the last time I was into the 'tuner' scene)

Use the NGK's. They will make you happiest. Don't be shocked at how expensive they are. They are totally worth it. Probably 15 a plug.

I would stick with the OEM plugs for the turbo model, which are NGK ILFR6B Iridium center electrode and platinum ground. It's a great plug.

I have checked my local NAPA, and AUTOZONE, and received different recommendations on which NGK plug to use, and cant find anything referencing the NGK ILFR6B model. Is there another part #, they all seem to be NGK with 4 digits after it.
thanks

scratch my last post, just went to the NGK website, and the part # is NGK ILFR6B, but the stock # is 6481 which seems to be the number the auto stores use. There is also a recommended IRIDIUM lX LFR6AIX-11, stock # 6619.

I put the Iridium IX plugs in my 05 turbo a few months ago and it runs great with them. The IX is a higher performance plug from what NGK's site states. Supposed to ignite stronger but at the cost of lifespan. The IX has a recommended replacement of 60,000 miles vs the OEM NGK replacements which are rated up to 100k.
