Pleas elaborate (picture?). I'm trying to figure out how / where to mount a fire extinguisher. Lack of a fire extinguisher is what cost me my last truck. A beat up sweat shirt is no match for a fuel rail leak and fire (even with engine shut off)0324181704 burning love.jpg Dennis
Wow!
Rear seats: if you pull rear seats down “flat” two plastic side “compartments” are exposed - they are attached with clips. So unclip plastic and there is room to put a small auto extinguisher on one side and Slime and air pump on the other. You could use a cloth to surround and pack to stop them banging around if necessary. I have pics somewhere I’ll try and post later tonite.

Keep in mind the more buried the extinguisher is the longer it'll take to get to. Packed away behind the seat means you better not have anything in the seat when you need it.
slime and a pump only works on a slow leak.
True - so little room in back seats try and keep loose stuff in medium plastic storage container that can be moved in seconds - I can get to extinguisher in under 30 seconds in orderly fashion. Good point below about not damaging with foam - I’m definitely on a low budget tho’:)
I'm actually now leaning towards just getting a smaller sized marine type extinguisher and "figure out" where to keep it. It will serve double duty with my boat (when using motor vs sail power). Anything's better than a sweatshirt Dennis
Old thread is old (as are all of our Bajas, sadly...) but came across this today while looking for info related to the spare.
As ZUBAJA had suggested, look for a junkyard with another Subaru that would have a compatible spare. If I'm reading the Subaru parts site correctly, the spare for our Bajas is part number 28111AE34A (supersedes 28111AE26A). This was also used in the Legacy lines. As of the time of this post, the full list of "what this fits" on the Subaru parts website is:
These are exact part number matches as listed by the site. It is possible some of the other Subarus may have similarly sized spares that are simply a different part number. So go look for a Legacy between 2001-2009 and check the trunk for a weather protected spare. My original has survived 13 years and been used twice probably for less than 10 miles total, but I'd like to find something a bit more trustworthy. 263K on the odometer and I'd like to see 400k from it!
Wondering if you can run a 15" rim with a 195/65 tire instead which is 25" diameter and 7.7" wide (should still fit as long as diameter is the same no?)
Question is will 15" steelie rub on brake rotors (I know 15" aftermarket wheels like methods do not)
Updated reply: My "never before used spare". After hanging under my Baja - IN THE SHADE for about 6 months, developed cracks . It still holds air, but I don't trust it. New plan: I will keep that spare for around town. I have located a couple of decent ones in other Outbacks (last weekend), and plan to get one tomorrow (another 40% off sale). This spare will live in my garage and only go on the car if I'm going out of town. Yes, the fix-a flat works - unless you hit something in the road, which I have done, and it couldn't be avoided. Then the mini spare is a nice option. Dennis
